Jerez test – driver profiles

A total of 45 drivers took part in last week’s GP2 test at Jerez.   In general terms, the end of season tests – first Jerez and later Paul Ricard – are a good chance for drivers to try out teams and for teams to try out drivers.   No real sporting objective, just the chance to get behind the wheel of GP2 cars for the last time before 2009 is over.

So where did these guys come from?  Were they mostly GP2 guys? Is F3 a main feeder series for GP2?  Hope this chart clears these doubts:Driver categories Jerez

Some expected names were missing from this Jerez test, most notably Sergio Pérez, Mirko Bortolotti, Bertrand Baguette, Valtteri Bottas, Roberto Merhi and Brandon Hartley – among others.  It will be interesting to compare this chart with the one after the test at Paul Ricard during mid-November, especially to see if the number of GP2 drivers goes down and if new blood begins to take positions for the 2010 GP2 Main season.
