Day 2: Maldonado P1 in afternoon session again

Pastor Maldonado has once again led the timesheets at Paul Ricard, just beating out Dani Clos who led most of the day with very quick laps in short stints.  Super Nova’s rookie led the new GP2 guys in a solid 3rd place, while Oliver Turvey was able to put his iSport solidly in 4th ahead of Ho-Pin Tung who surprised with his speed at the end of the session.

The day was marked by the extremely fast speeds set in the A2 configuration, with Trident’s Adrian Zaugg lighting up the speed trap at 312 km/h.

GP2 Asia champ Valsecchi was able to get into the top drivers today, putting both of the iSports in the top-10 – as did Rapax (Maldonado/Razia), DAMS (Tung/D’Ambrosio) and ART (Bird/Bianchi).

Disappointing afternoon for Ricci, who completed only a few laps, Vietoris, Ocean Racing and the Barwa Addax Team – not finding that strong low downforce setup to be at the top today.   Important to note, though, that the top 21 drivers were all in the same second – with only Vietoris, Chilton and Ericsson out of this bracket – the Swede unable to post a time in the session after a crash early on after the lunch break.
